This fall, having a little vacation time, i decided to take a little time for myself and camp along the icicle River. My first plan had been to journey the 10 - 12 miles into the Chain Lakes near Stevens Pass, but I decided that a day in and a day out would more than I wanted to spend hiking under a heavy pack. So I decided the beautiful but fairly flat Icicle river would be for me.

I grew up next to this river, and it will always hold a strong place in my heart.

I decided to try to go light, and avoid using my HUGE Gregory pack. I have my Rocky day pack, a small bedroll with tarp and fleece blankent (and a wool one in the pack). How well did it work? Having a Musset bag swinging around is not that pleasant actually. More study needed, and I need to learn to go lighter!

Susie hiked in to the first campsite with me (she needs to rest up). Then I dropped my gear and walked her out the 2 miles back, (and hiked back to my gear, oy!)

Here's my sleeping gear...

And my chow (In three days, I only ate about half this)

I decided to not camp in the established sites by the river, but a little ways up the hill, out of site. at night it was at least 10 degrees warmer than down by the water.
