Down To The River
(Columbia River near Ancient Lakes in Washington State) 3 pages

May, 2008

I decided to take a bit of a hike this May out to Ancient Lakes. I was really trying to find
a way down to the Columbia River, but there are, as you will see, a lot of basalt cliffs.

This first shot is of the "ridge" between the valleys of Ancient Lakes and Dusty Lake.

Eventually, I found the path down. Eventually.

The trail down, was actually in good shape! I was, however warned to walk very carefully by the rattlesnake that crawled
away from only being 8 inches from my foot.... (At this point, every bush along the trail became suspect)

At last! The river! You can see the trail continuing down below. You'll see the occasional speed boat or fishermen, but it's pretty quiet on the whole.

The opposite side of the river is where the current Wandering Ones storyline happens.

Found a very nice campsite maintained by some horsepeople.

They even left a little art behind.
