Brodacia - Eastern WA wild edible. The flowers are tasty. (Eat Flowers only - and use a field guide to be sure)

Ant Lion holes! This odd little insect makes that funnel shaped hole and waits at the bottom with large pincer jaws.
Anyone remember that scene in Return of the Jedi?

Tracks! These little guys are quite common in my area.
They're often seen running though my yard, shouting out "Chicago! Chicago!"
My Ford Ranger Key is there for size.

My Frost river Nessmuk pack and gear. The bright orange vest serves two purposes.
It's made of fleece, so it's an extra layer if it gets cold, and it, unlike most of my Earth-colored gear,
it's flourescent orange so that I can be seen if I get into trouble I can't get myself out of.

The large knife is a Cold Steel Perfect thrower, which i think makes an excellent survival knife.
Do I need it? Debateable. But never underestimate the benefit of a good "security blanket".
The pocket knife is a Victorinox German army knife that I got "2 for $14".

The contents of my belt kit, an old M-16 ammo pouch on my belt. (List below the photo) I like having a kit that fits on my belt,
so that even if I lose my daypack, I still have what I need to get by.

The Kit includes: (from upper left) Large baid aids, knuck bandaids, A bottle of Pottable Aqua tablet (iodine to "purify" water)
some tin foil that I canboil water if it's all I have, various cordage, a small bottle of ibuprofen, various repair needles
(probably overkilling on that a bit) vial of matches, small knife sharpener, fishing kit covered with cloth camo tape (line, hooks, sinkers)
light weight space blanket, roll of fishline, gauze pad, pocket knife, vaseline coated cotton balls in a pill bottle (very flammable),
Light My Fire flint striker (the best in my opinion), piece of flint, compass, lighter, rooster tail spinner, small vial of bullion cubes.
