Chain Lakes 2008 © 2008 Clint Hollingsworth
Hey
all,
Susie and I took a day-long hike out to the Ancient Lakes Wildlife area near Quincy, Washington a few weeks ago. We had a great day! The valley is a glacier-carved niche off the Columbia River gorge, and even though you wouldn't expect such a desert looking place to have it, there were waterfalls and swamps galore. Most fed from the huge agriculture farms on the plateus above. ![]() Heading down the valley, past the swamp. ![]() The intrepid hero, at the first waterfall. Note the layers of vocanic activity in the cliffs. ![]() There were coyote tracks everywhere! If one camped in the valley, I bet they's be treated to a wonderful concert. ![]() Susie says "Quit'cher dawdlin, camera boy!" ![]() and out of the desert, we find three lakes. ![]() The biggest waterfall in the valley. There were some kind of fish in the lakes. Carp I think. ![]() The view heading out of the valley, the Columbia Gorge straight ahead. And down a supposedly dry wash, a little bonus... ![]() Pretty Cool Hunh? ![]() This post has been edited by macclint: Oct 17 2005, 01:54 PM
