During my brief vacation this year, I got to take a two day, one night trip to Douglas Creek Canyon in Eastern Washington. It's still too snowy in the mountains for my liking, so I decided to go towards the sagebrush. Here are a few pictures for your review.

This is the entrance to the area, taking that dirt road up to where the road has been blocked. (It runs miles and miles out to the Waterville area on the otherside of the blockage.

One of the things I really like about this area is the diversity of geological formations.

This looks like an old mine, but it's just a shelter of some sort, filled with old trash and spider webs. to be honest, it kinda always gives me the heebie jeebies.

Eventually though, i found my sweet spot.

Most of the length of the canyon is a series of descending beaver dams...

And most of the ponds have trout in them (Look carefully) Though I didn't see amny over 8 inches.

The descending ponds make a very lush green corridor in what is basically high desert.

But the beavers really give the willows a working over.

I set my tent up right next to a big beaver pond, and that evening, I was treated to the site of beaver swimming up and down the creek. However, when they finally noticed me they would slap tail to water, and dive, dive dive!

In revenge, everytime I fell asleep during the night (and probably started snoring) they would slap the water right outside my tent. Needless to say, when out in the wilderness far from people, a loud noise bringing one out of sleep (even if you know what it is) can make the heart beat pretty fast. It was an... interesting night...

The final view after breaking camp.

I enjoyed being out by myself. The stars were bright, the Ospreys were big, and the rattlesnakes and coyotes only showed me their tracks. Can't think of a better way to spend a mini-vacation!
